They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone. (Dan 5:4 [KJV])
In many hotels you will find a Safe box and instructions on how to operate it. It gives you guide on how to set the password and how to use it general. This is because each one of us would like to move with what we consider valuable and so we need a place to deposit them when at times we cannot carry them along based on circumstances. No wonder banks and similar security agents are making their living be providing security on their behalf. Since they cannot be secure with such items in their homes they will be willing to pay huge sums of money to keep them safe. I ask myself, why would I want to own such valuables yet I cannot enjoy having it with me and live in constant fear? Many of us are controlled by the material things of this world. We go crazy with what the world define as valuables.
The worldly valuables can be money, documents such as certificated, diplomas, a Will, jewels, gold and other germs; our property title deeds etc. and the list keeps expanding. Before these things we lose our minds and forget God the provider. These valuables are memento and are transitory in nature. They are not worth the attention we give them. I have read and heard of many young people who stopped their careers to join others in old abandoned mines; to become miners with the hope of striking a fortune and unfortunately many do not make it. They end up dying in their mines or die due to the bad lifestyle that follows their fortune.
So much effort is placed on valuables and then they cannot be enjoyed, that is the irony of life. Why would it be called a valuable or treasure yet it is so temporary?
The world views treasure as tangible, solid and physical items and thus they have been given much higher value by human beings than they deserve.
“Guard well within yourself that treasure, kindness. Know how to give without hesitation, how to lose without regret, how to acquire without meanness.” –George Sand
Spiritual treasure on the other hand, is not touchable not visible with necked eyes yet it is priceless. The bible calls it fruit of spirit: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23. Its results are visible as ripened fruits but its worth cannot be priced nor value placed upon them. With such treasure one can sleep peacefully and no one can steal them away. They would not cause anyone anxiety, stress and sleepless nights. Their time is immeasurable and its value would not depreciate but keeps appreciating; they have no fear of inflation nor are they subjected to market values and bidding. Possessors of such are indeed wealthy and have invested wisely. God will also reward those who possess such treasure for being good stewards. Their reward is the crowning value of all ages.
If you have sleepless nights because of insecurity you probably have invested unwisely, you need a new investment scheme that will turn things around. Our eternal reward is way too pricy to waste our time on few pounds of earthly jewels.
