SHAME THE DEVIL

In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine [shewing] uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you. Titus 2:7, 8 [KJV]

I can imagine the devil bowing down his head in dissapointment and shame when one has finally overcome the temptation he has always overcome in the passed. This is especially so when such a person has finally committed his life over to Christ whose strength has brought victory. That victory begins a new battle in his life, the devil will bring about a new approach to that already existing weakness to ensure he reclaim that person.

It is not about a display of ability to defeat the devil or to switch from bad to good at wiil, it is about what reveales itself as a result of transformation within us. We are to display our change through what we do daily, through what we display in our daily conduct which is clearly seen and heard by others. ‘Show yourself’ would include the change of character that commonly identifies with you in your community. It is not a show off but rather show up of what is happening in you.

So the things that bring shame to the evil one are good conducts we exhibit in our daily living. It is not a good sign of loyalty to the master of evil when we do good. Good things are of the master of light, Jesus. Good works are associated with Christ’s presence in our lives, who is the enabling powers to do the works that glorify God. While the devil claims us as his own, a change in the loyalty is a big blow to him. Look at the list of characters listed on our key text above; they reflect a total transformation. He says ‘in all things..’ . It is not about one particular area but about a complete transformation.

God gives us total victory not partial. That can bring confusion among the people who know you well. They will not easily believe you have changed, they will keep hoping you will trip and fall and display your ‘true self’ as known to them. The devil will also keep expecting you to fall back to your passed where he would prefer to keep you. But when we have allowed Christ to take over our lives we shall not desire the passed but instead we shall be delighted in the newness of life as revealed to us in Christ Jesus. 1John 5:4,5(KJV) “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, [even] our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
