Separation Ended

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2:13
Sin pushed men far from God, a dark vail if you wish dropped between us and our creator it blocked our view of God and his love for us. Sin brought separation from our creator and united us with the world of sin whose master satan seeks to bring destruction. Our union with the world has only caused us pain and suffering. God’s plan of salvation has brought back the possibility of sure reunion with him. We no longer need to remain separated from him however this is done through personal choice. There must be a separation before uniting; there was a terminated relationship with our creator in uniting with Satan, and we will have to terminate our union with the darkness in order to reunite with God. Separation with the world is union with God. “The true followers of Christ will have sacrifices to make. They will shun places of worldly amusement because they find no Jesus there—no influence which will make them heavenly-minded and increase their growth in grace. Obedience to the word of God will lead them to come out from all these things and be separate.” – {CT 328.3}

God was not happy when we chose to separate from him, it pained him. This was much like the way we feel when we have to separate from our loved ones. I have seen tears that are cause by separation, bidding farewell, being lonely and the uncertainty of reuniting. I see this fear of separation in the disciples when Jesus was bidding them farewell and commissioning them. You can imagine the feeling through encouraging words of Jesus found in John 14 “Let not your hearts be troubled; yet believe in God, believe also in me..”. Jesus had just build a abridge between humanity and divinity, and was now going to work on remaining ‘logistics’ that would mark the end of sin and beginning of a new life without separation. Here after separation would not exist between him and his special creation.

“By His life and His death, Christ has achieved even more than recovery from the ruin wrought through sin. It was Satan’s purpose to bring about an eternal separation between God and man; but in Christ we become more closely united to God than if we had never fallen. In taking our nature, the Saviour has bound Himself to humanity by a tie that is never to be broken.” Desire of Ages p.25

However, it must be understood that we are capable through power of choice to make choices that would draw us closer to God or further separate us. While we are called to trust and depend on God we are left to make that choice ourselves. There are times we can have God in charge of our lives, he would then determine the way we should go for our own good. But what happens to us instead is making contrary choices to serve other gods. That path takes us further from God and results are disappointment, failures and even destruction. Concerning the Israel of Old Ellen White said, “Because of their separation from God, the Lord humbled them. He could not work for their prosperity, He could not fulfill His covenant with them while they were untrue to the principles…”CTr 181. At that time they may have seen God to be far away, out of sight.
