Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. Titus 2:14
The message of redemption is what the word of God, the Bible contains. The Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary about the Psalms 19, concludes so with the following words. “No prayer can be acceptable before God which is not offered in the strength of our Redeemer or Divine Kinsman, through Him who took our nature upon him, that he might redeem us unto God, and restore the long-lost inheritance.” Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary
That word contains strong warning, God’s promises, admonition, encouragement, instructions, and it has reproach. But all those at in the context of redemption of once lost creation of God. Redemption is not complete without two parties involved; the able, willing, concerned and blameless and selfless giver on one side; and on the receiving end, a helpless, guilty, unable, desperate seeker. There is a redeemer and redeemed. One able to save the other and one helpless and lacking ability to do anything for themselves. That redeemer is also referred to as savior while the other is hoping to be saved. One with ability and a willingness to help.
There is also one very important aspect to redemption; the ability to pay for the debt owed by the other. That is why one party is able, with resources and the right price, (able to ‘purify’) required for the redemption. And has a willing heart to render that free selfless price for the sake of the one in need. That party is God’s, was willing to pay the price for a fallen man and reclaim them back to his own. God was interested that which He creation in His own image. True love, ‘God’s love’ is the driving power in redemption. That love is the resource of heaven, the price solution for sin.
“Many are without God and without hope in the world. They are guilty, corrupt, and degraded, enslaved by Satan’s devices. Yet these are the ones whom Christ came from heaven to redeem. They are subjects for tenderest pity, sympathy, and tireless effort, for they are on the verge of ruin.” Councils on Health p.385
This is where you and me, who have accepted Christ the offer of salvation (‘a peculiar people’) become involved as communication agents for the good news. Being used of God, under the banner of Love to make others aware of this gift, this price paid, this life changing reversal solution to sin. “This is the very work the Lord would have His people do at this time. All who consecrate themselves to God to work as canvassers are assisting to give the last message of warning to the world.” Colporteur Ministry p. 6
