Come Out

Then I heard another voice from heaven: Come out of her, My people, so that you will not share in her sins or receive any of her plagues. Revelation 18:4

As a child we were warned not to belong to a group of boys who are of questionable character. You are not to be seen with follow listed boys and girls in that community. Then we felt it was not fair for us to be so guarded and we considered our mother to be over protective of us. We felt we had ability to decide for ourselves who could be our friend and who could not. Many years later I applied the same law with my children because I realized that it was not a mere parental protection but it is a biblical principle. “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” Psalms 1:1

God is also reiterating the same message in relation to the last days warnings. The main text is reminding God’s people to be separate from the world, from the evil companion, from evil associates, from evil influence. To belong to a different companionship of believers, commandment keepers, obedient to God, a people yielding to God’s will and not the sinful living. It is a call to remember, we belong to God not Satan the ruler of this world. It is a call to be saved from impending destruction meant for sin dwellers. It is a wake up call to recognize there is a place that seem good but it is a trap for destruction.
The reasons to keeping off such companion coming out of Babylon are as follows: First, to stay clear and safe from evil contamination. We are vulnerable to sinning, we can easily fall victims of influence to sin if we remain mingled with evil doers. We are easy to influence, so the best way is to keep of such companion. “If we place ourselves among associates whose influence has a tendency to make us forgetful of the high claims the Lord has upon us, we invite temptation and become too weak in moral power to resist it.”

Secondly, is to be safe when destruction comes. Sin and sinners will be destroyed. Them and their environment and all they have will be destroyed forever, so being in there would mean falling victims of circumstance. Thirdly, is to stand out as a different, peculiar people for others to see and be influenced for salvation instead. We cannot be an influence within, we must stand out differently for others to be attracted to our difference.

Paul used the same instruction to the Corinthians when he said, “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.” 2 Corinthians 6:17. This is the call to true Christianity. Though in the world yet, totally different from the world. Grounded in the world but not in tune with the world, living in the world but not part of it.

The main text use the phrase “come out of her” implying we are already in it, but need to know we do not belong. To remain therein would be to be partakers of worldly goodies which are an allurement to destruction. So, wake up!
