Actions of the flesh… Wild Partying

Envy, murder, drunkenness, wild partying, and things like that. I am telling you now, as I have told you in the past, that people who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Gal 5:21 [ISV])

Where were they in the days of Noah when the flood overtook them or where were they when the fire fell upon them in Sodom and Gomorrah? The bbible is clear that they were doing pleasure. People perished whiled engaged in partying – making merry. The International Standard Version Bible terms it wild partying. There could be partying that is good even in heaven we shall party around the long table before our creator. But wild partying does not have God in it, It is  a place where people have decided to overindulge, to be unreservedly out of control, do what they desire instead of what pleases God.

The attitude of many today is that of their master the devil – ‘it is your money and it is your life; let no one tell you what is good for you, do what your body pleases.’ Infact these words have clearly spelt the one behind it. It is just like the devil to make us feel we want to be in control of our own lives when we should know better that he is instead seeking an opportunity to control our lives. That deceiver is actually saying ‘detach from God and get attached to me’.

Worldly partying has come with a heavy price tag concealed in it, just look at the biblical examples of wild partying: Queen Vashti lost her position as queen because of disobeying wild orders which came as a result of wild partying. “..when the king was under the influence of all that wine, he ordered Mehuman to bring Queen Vashti to the king, wearing the royal crown to display her beauty to the people and the officials, since she was lovely to look at.” (Esther 1:10 [ISV])

You may remember that the mighty Samson’s life came to an end at a wild party. Many lives were lost in those events that seem good in their sight. But looking back into his life, Samson enjoyed partying and it is at the party his life came to an end.

In the book of Daniel 5 we see King Belshazzar in a wild party that marked his end and the end of his kingdom and the lost of many civilian lives. The writing on the wall announced to him and the partying crew the judgment that turned the partying into utter devastation. Another wild party ended with the head of John the Baptist on a plate as a reward to the King’s daughters.

It seems to me that wild parties have a negative effect on peoples’ brains such that they think irrationally and act out of control like beasts. That is the action of the flesh, yes the body seeks for its gratification but that gratification leads to eternal death. What will it gain a man to party wildly (gratify the body) and loose his life?

“Now is our time to prepare to meet Christ. God has given us this time, and if we use it in self-gratification instead of in crucifying self by sacrifice, we shall come up to the Judgment unprepared. In that day many will plead as an excuse, that they did not know that Christ’s coming was near. But this excuse will not be accepted. They did not know simply because they did not want to know. God gave them abundant opportunity for knowing, but they closed their eyes that they might not see, and stopped their ears that they might not hear. Their one thought was to enjoy the things of this world. Like the people of Noah’s day, they spent their lives in self-gratification.”  {ST, April 17, 1901 par. 15}
