Doctrines of Men

But in vain do they worship me, Teaching as their doctrines the precepts of men. Matthew 15:9 (ASV)
Doctrine is defined as a particular principle, a position or policy taught or advocated – A body or system of teachings relating to a particular subject – Something that is taught , teachings collectively.. of a religion or government.
Doctrine define the basis of Christian or they are foundational principles of a religion or faith group, such would be otherwise be considered pillars of any religion. Christians doctrines are founded in the word of God. However as indicated in the text there are those who have brought in their own doctrines and teach them as God’s doctrines. Since they are entrusted with the role of ministering to the people, to teach them the doctrines of God so that they may be grounded in faith. Instead they sneak in their own teachings and mix them with thus says the Lord. The end thereof is mislead people into the trap of the evil one.
There are many christian doctrines or rather precepts that are biblically founded in the way of the enemy. Their advocates are masquerading as the ministers of the light but their teachings are concocted with false teachings in order to mislead many from the truth, the text above has called such teachings ‘the precepts of men’. We are advised to be careful and avoid them – “But the Spirit saith expressly, that in later times some shall fall away from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons” 1 Timothy 4:1, it further warns us to “Handle not, nor taste, nor touch (all which things are to perish with the using), after the precepts and doctrines of men?” Colossians 2:21-22
We need to be aware of these people who would mislead us from the truth because we trust these men to know the truth and depend on them to translate the doctrines to us instead of us searching the word to test their teachings whether they are true or otherwise. “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves.” Matthew 7:15
“The life of him in whose heart Christ abides, will reveal practical godliness. The character will be purified, elevated, ennobled, and glorified. Pure doctrine will blend with works of righteousness; heavenly precepts will mingle with holy practices.” – {Acts of Apostles p.560}
