The earth mourneth [and] fadeth away, the world languisheth [and] fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish. The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. (Isa 24:4, 5 [KJV])

The above warning is similar to that of (Rev 18:4,5 [KJV]) “And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.”
It is purposed to let the wise know the state of our habitation so that we can make decision to live or stay alert, safe and clear of the things of the world. It is a message of doom for the worldly-minded people; it is an awakening call to the sleeping people and at the same time hope for the heaven bound sojourners.
The state of the world today is not a secret to the wise it is instead an eye opener. The world is fading away and is languishing in sinfulness; many are perishing without hope because they have buried themselves in world’s affairs until it is a moment too late. The world is defiled and it is the sins of the people their stubbornness, their persistence to sinful life style and their decision to out-rightly be defiant to God’s law that has brought about this state. To be partakers of the worldly things is equally a choice to become defiled. “The prevailing spirit of our time is that of infidelity and apostasy–a spirit of pretended illumination because of acknowledge of the truth, but in reality of the blindest presumption. There is a spirit of opposition to the plain word of God and to the testimony of His Spirit. There is a spirit of idolatrous exaltation of mere human reason above the revealed wisdom of God.” – E. G. White {5T 79.1}
There a many ways through which we become of the world and the first questions we need to ask ourselves are; as the worldly people see me do they see a difference? Do I look different outwardly? Do they hear a tone different from that of the world? Do they note a difference in my conducts? Do they sense a desired difference in me? It begins outwardly; the way we groom ourselves, our dress code, our personality wear, our mannerism etc; then goes further deeper into the way we relate with them, our talk our temperaments , our likes and dislikes etc. To become like the world is what the word of God refers to as spiritual adultery and idolatry. Both adultery and idolatry describe the state of our loyalty. By forsaking our Creator our maker for other attractions we commit adultery and by idolizing the world and conform to its ways instead of being loyal to God we have chosen other centre of worship ; in such manners we become like the world such that they cannot see any difference in us.
“If we defile our bodies, we are doing harm not only to ourselves, but to many others. Christians are under obligation to God to keep soul, body, and spirit free from all that defiles; for they have been bought with a price. He who defiles himself by false doctrines or by any unholy practice, is helping to defile the church; for his influence is corrupting.” – E. G. White {Review and Herald, November 6, 1900 par. 2}
It is time we mean business by separating ourselves with that which defiles and instead influence others to become Christians and prepare them for salvation.
