Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions. (Ecclesiastes 7:29 [KJV])
I heard once someone complaining that Satan has made him to commit sin and the other replied saying that we should stop blaming Satan for everything. This statement has a practical application in connection to the words of Solomon. Human beings are endowed with the brain (intelligence) to think and create things. Man has refuse to take blame on sins they commit, Satan and his agents are blamed for all terrible things we do yet we know that we make our own decisions, our own plans to commit sins; we literally strategize and deliberately plan how to execute sins most of the time.
Who is responsible for our creativity and inventions both big and small that are taking place in the world today? Why is it that we have not blamed Satan for such innovations as cars, electricity, airplanes and ships, space crafts and trips to the space, skyscrapers and many other great inventions done with the same brain same mind. If we could be creative and innovative in so may aspects of our lives today while living in the world of sin what can prevent us from becoming innovative with sin. “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man [was] great in the earth, and [that] every imagination of the thoughts of his heart [was] only evil continually.”(Gen 6:5 [KJV])
Our evil mind is able to conceive an evil plan and execute it in a complex and even high tech manner. Gay marriages and indulgence is man’s creation, substance abuse is another invention that has gripped and imprisoned many. The only problem is that it continues down the path of evil doing rather than innovations that would be of God’s glory. We keep dishonoring the creator of the mind and the brain we have through by utilizing them for the glory of the evil one – the fallen created being. “..God has raised up men with inventive faculties to construct implements to lighten labor on the land groaning under the curse. But God has not been in all man’s inventions. Satan has controlled the minds of men to a great extent, and has hurried men to new inventions which has led them to forget God.” –Bible Commentary Vol. 1 p.1089.
When we depend on our own will and control, we will not be able to use our mind and intellectual abilities to the glory of God; it will always work against God and will not achieve much. That is why worldly wisdom is considered foolishness. While the brain we have is God-given it is yet foolishness because it is flawed and controlled by sinful ego. No wonder Paul says “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”(2Cor 10:5 [KJV])
“When tempted to yield to a corrupt imagination, then flee to the throne of grace and pray for strength from Heaven. In the strength of God the imagination can be disciplined to dwell upon things which are pure and heavenly. — Mind Character and Personality Vol.2 p.595
God forbid that we should use our brain for the gory of the devil instead of God who is the giver. We may have been careless in this till now but we need to be awakened and realize our knowledge and intelligence is easily misguided and we can end up planning better ways to sin rather that living for God’s glory.
