Isaiah Chapter 1 is a must read for us Christians. One of the articles in timeless principles has addressed verse 9 of this chapter. I recommend that you read it as the one being reprimanded of your wrong doing or sinful state; after all we are all sinners. It might be your wakening call. The state in which we are today is not different from that of Israel then and it is probably worse than then.
Complacency in sin is what you see everywhere among professed Christ followers. We have decided for ourselves to get things our way. Sexual sins, gossips, backstabbing or character assassination, indulgence, conforming to the world, materialistic, hatred and many more sins are the ways in which we operate our lives. We seem to imagine than we are saved anyway and we are on course yet we are pathetic.
Knowing Christ and what he did for mankind is not salvation by itself; we are expected to take steps to conform to the plan of salvation. As long as sin is part of us we cannot rest or be satisfied or comfortable with our salvation. Look at the description in the following texts:
“Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward. From the sole of the foot even unto the head [there is] no soundness in it; [but] wounds, and bruises, and putrefying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” (Isa 1:4, 6, 16, 18 [KJV])
The above texts describe clearly the state in which professed Christians leave today and how they are in need of spiritual cleansing in and out. We need to change out mind set; from the thought of being readily saved to that of soul searching and examining our ways against the will of God.
Salvation involves spiritual laundry, cleaning up of our lives and replacing our filthy wear with of Christ, our righteousness. That cannot be accomplished by claims, it can only be accomplished through self surrender, repentance and through obedience to the will of God. “The righteousness by which we are justified is imputed; the righteousness by which we are sanctified is imparted. The first is our title to heaven, the second is our fitness for heaven.”—Messages to Young People p.35
The crimson wear we have can only be replaced with the rob of righteousness that is provided by Christ Jesus. Our claims to be Christians will not make us Christ like, it will not give us the righteousness of Christ without which we cannot see God. “Righteousness is holiness, likeness to God, and “God is love.” 1 John 4:16. It is conformity to the law of God, for “all thy commandments are righteousness” (Psalm 119:172), and “love is the fulfilling of the law” (Romans 13:10). Righteousness is love, and love is the light and the life of God. The righteousness of God is embodied in Christ. We receive righteousness by receiving Him.” –The Faith I Live By p.109
Do not dwell in mediocrity of Christianity there is not salvation in such life style it is a deception of the evil one. That is also the message to the Laodiceans church (Christians of the last days you and I) found in Revelation 3:14-22
