Through the Night

Psalms 3:5 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me.
There many people in the world today who would not wish for the night to come because they are full of fear for their lives. In sickness nights are most scary part of the 24 hour day. The sick dread the nights Job 7:3 “So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.To the rich people nights are full of Anxiety and uncertainties that would cause a sleepless night.”
Nights are God’s designation special moments for mankind to rest and sleep in order to rejuvenate the weary body for the next days labor. Often this is the time people reflect on the activities of the day and think of the security of their houses, their business, their positions, their achievements and challenges, their properties, their families and in the quietness of the night they become anxious and weary that would sometimes cause a sleepless night and to many eventually stress and depression.
The evil one is happy when we go down this path. Once we desire and focus our lives on materialism, power and positions we have chosen a life of sleepless nights. We would even become people of nights like Nicodemus, our activities would be active during the nights we will spend many nights planning, scheming and plotting ways to success which is but passing and of no value for us. Remember the rich man in Luke 12:16-20, who thought he would relax and be merry and enjoy what he has amassed for himself but was called a fool because he was going to die that night and leave all the wealth behind without enjoying them.
Whereas much evil has been planned and executed in the night, like plots to kill Jesus, but there are also many victories achieved and fulfilled in the night. The good news of the coming Messiah was announced at night, the birth of our savior Jesus was announced to the shepherds at night as they kept watch; nights could be spent in claiming victory through prayers and supplications as Jesus did. A night in the den of lions could be peaceful as was to Daniel with God, yet many live their lives in the lions’ den of their own struggles so their nights are rough and scary. We ought to realise as David that we cannot sustain ourselves through the nights of our affairs of life, we need God to take care of us and we shall sleep through the night.
Ecclesiastes 2:22-23 “For what hath man of all his labour, and of the vexation of his heart, wherein he hath laboured under the sun? For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity.”
