(Ps 90:12 [KJV])So teach [us] to number our days, that we may apply [our] hearts unto wisdom.
We often are forgetful that we have a very short limited time on earth. The above text has always baffled me, making wonder to audit my life as David did. It is a terrific reminder of our mortal state and that we should be careful to fulfill our purpose of existence while having our breath.
The life in this world is deceptive and it seems to flow automatically and can easily be allowed to flow as it comes without purpose or reason for existence whatsoever. By the way our life today is even shorter that what the Psalmist said – “The days of our years [are] threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength [they be] fourscore years, yet [is] their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.” (Ps 90:10 [KJV])
Considering the increase in diseases such cancer which is on the rise, murder, accidents, calamities and the list goes on, we can be sure it is very few who have that much time on earth, majority perish way before this age.
Mortality rates, life expectancy have completely changed how we should view the longevity of life. David compared life to a flower that is today and gone tomorrow. Why is it that we cannot see that and have our eyes on the things of importance? What assurance do you have for life tomorrow? Can you be sure to be in class or at work tomorrow? No, you can only plan tomorrow with a hope that tomorrow will be just like today. What we forget is that there is an evil plan for us by the devil, whether we like it or not and also an optional wonderful, greatest plan by God.
God is gracious and in that he has made it known to us that there is danger, he has revealed the tricks and the deception of the devil against us but better still he has revealed his good plan for us. That is an insight to a better life to a restoration or recovery of His wonderful original state – How else could we have known the war between good and evil, how could we have known that Satan is a liar and destroyer, how else could we have known that the devil brought disobedience and death to us? How else could we have known God is love and what it took God to reverse the curse of eternal death? How could we know who God is and many other things that enlighten our Christian journey?
God has laid bare all that we need to know but without spiritual sight, without discernment we will remain blind we will walk in darkness; our prayer should be “Open my eyes that I might see” He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee..” Micah 6:8. It is because we do not pay attention to God’s word or we just brush through to take care of our guilt for not spending time with God. “But God has revealed all that is necessary for our salvation. We are not to leave His Word for the suppositions of men. . The more the Bible is studied, the deeper will be your knowledge of God. The truths of His word will be written in your soul, making an ineffaceable impression. -E.G. White
Are spiritually blind? Is the word of god hard for you to understand? Spend time with the author of the word, ask for wisdom and understanding your eyes will then be opened. You will begin to truly see.
