Useful Vessel

2 Timothy 2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.
Once chosen to be Christ’s follower you become an agent of mission. Reaching other people. Idleness of mission is not an option to christians. We not only need to be used of God to communicate the good news of salvation but we also need to be working tools or instruments that are constantly in useful for that same purpose.
Each one of us is created in for a purpose just as a tool is made to be used for a particular and purpose. We are also equipped with the necessary potential for a specific function; Saul for example after his experience on the way to Damascus became a useful vessel to God. It is at this point he discovered his purpose and accepted it. Before this moment he was on a different path, he did the opposite of what God intended for him to do, he rained terror among christians and when God sent Ananias to give Saul his sight back he protested in fear for his life but God assured him saying “Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel” Acts 9:15 he was a special vessel with special assignment – to bear God’s name before the Gentiles and Kings. God brought him back to His will.
The devil has interfered with our mission our purpose, confusing us and attempt to give us new job description as he did with Saul and many others but God is able to change one back to his desired will, to take up correct functions that are ordained as recorder in Romans 9:21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
God equips us for his work and places in us the skills and power to enable us to be effective in the work given to us. The word of God calls these skills ‘talents’ or ‘gifts’ which are given to us in order to make us achieve his will. We cannot all have same gifts, there is a need for diverse approach. Therefore we are all uniquely endowed with special gifts for effectiveness. We cannot all be spoons or plates or all cannot be cooking pan, all have their own functions that ultimately accomplish one purpose. That is how we are designed to be. Ephesians 4:11-12 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.
“We should better appreciate the worth of the soul; for every soul c onverted to God means a vessel dedicated to a holy use, a depositary of truth, a bearer of light to others.” -E. G. White
