Reminders Forgotten

Luke 24:8 And they remembered His words.
Forgetfulness is a mental decay caused by sin. It is also the devil’s medium to keep us away from the truth and from doing that which God requires of us. Let me put it this way; besides negligence and outright disobedience, forgetfulness is the third of the three ways in which we find ourselves in trouble with God’s desire and His will for us. It is through these three ways that we end up commiting sin. Sin can simply be defined as ‘disobedience to God, you can do so by stubornnes or outright defyment to God’s law. The second way is by being negligent to instructions which come as a result of a poor knowledge of God’s will or assuming that it is not serious after all. (It is a state of mental contentment to a status quo). The third way is forgetfulness. We know what is expected by forgetting to do what we should be doing, mostly this happens because we have not made those values our habits. Therefore it is possible to forget certain ways or practices that will keep us away from sin.
The good news is that, God knowing this, He provided reminders to keep us aware of the way we should go. There is no excuse since reminders are everywhere around us to reminder us of God our creator; directing our minds to the God Almighty. He reminds us of our origin, our destiny and of the interruption that was brought by the devil, and of the plan to restore us back to the sinless state.
These reminders are basically divided into two: These are the Nature (God’s creation all around us) and His Word found in the scriptures. “Adam’s life was filled with sorrow. Every dying leaf, every victim of sacrifice, every stain upon man’s purity, was a reminder of his sin. Terrible was the agony of remorse as he met the reproaches cast upon himself as the cause of sin. Faithfully did he repent of his sin, and he died in the hope of a resurrection.” E. G. white (Letter 79, 1898)
Not heeding to these reminders would translate to negligence or total disobedience to God. We can be reminded of our way back to God by paying attention to the Reminders. It is a divine guide map for us on our journey to restoration. “He knew that for witnessing to Him as the Messiah, some of them would suffer death. And something of this He told them. In speaking of their future, He was plain and definite, that in their coming trial they might remember His words and be strengthened to believe in Him as the Redeemer.” –E. G. White (Acts of Apostles)
As followers of Christ we also become reminders to others still confused and unaware of the destruction that comes with final elimination of sin. “Will you not bind yourself up with God. Waste not your physical and mental powers in inaction. Let your example be a constant reminder of what God requires from every steward of means and of ability.”E. G. White
