Sunshine of the Soul

Ecclesiastes 11:7 Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:
Most people enjoy sunshine outdoor activities but not all part of the world enjoy sunshine throughout the year. There are places where the wheather is cold with snow or rains most times, and clouds covering the sun making such places gloomy and unpleasant. Prolonged gloomy weathers have been associated with depression. Whenever there are few days of sunshine in such places all people will stop their work take a leave to spend the days in sunshine, busking and sporting outdoor. There is a new sense of energy where there is sunshine. No wonder Solomon would say what he said in the above text.

Spiritual life is about socializing and fellowshiping with one another and with God. That fellowship and that connection with each other and fellowship with God brings a sunshine of the soul. There is special energy and enthusiasm that eminates from that kind of fellowshipww. “If there is anyone who enjoys happiness, even in this life, it is the faithful follower of Jesus Christ. It is the duty of God’s children to be cheerful. They should encourage a happy frame of mind. God cannot be glorified by His children living continually under a cloud and casting a shadow wherever they go. The Christian should cast sunshine instead of a shadow…. He will bear a cheerful countenance.” -E.G. White

Think of what happens to your soul when you have done something good to someone else, there is a joy that cannot be explained. Our christian lives are to be meaningful and progressive through relationships, both horizontal (with fellow human beings) and vertical (with God) relationships. Matthew 5:44-45 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
That is what the greatest commandment is all about Mark 12:30-31 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
Being obedient to God’s law is not to live in isolation or away from fellow beings, is not separation from the community, is not to cut communichhation with fellow people, it is instead, to relate well with those of our kind, in a way they can understand God’s love from a practical love association with those that serve and fear God. This will bring different kind of sunshine in such souls and a real meaning to christianity.

“God calls not only for your benevolence, but for your cheerful countenance, your hopeful words, the grasp of your hand. As you visit the Lord’s afflicted ones, you will find some from whom hope has departed; bring back the sunshine to them. There are those who need the bread of life; read to them from the word of God. Upon others there is a soul sickness that no earthly balm can reach or physician heal; pray for these, and bring them to Jesus.” -E.G. White
