“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Rom 6:2 (ESV)
There is a reward awaiting each and everyone living under the sun. That reward is simply eternal life or eternal death. Death as we see it now is but an early manifestation of the final death, a preamble to the ultimate death. This first death cannot be avoided but that eternal death can be avoided. Those who are in Christ Jesus will only face death once the bible call is it sleep and some will not even face death at all; the unrighteous will die twice. As you can see in the text above, that death has been converted to eternal life for those who will choose to follow Christ. Revelation 22:12 says, behold I come quickly and my reward is with me to give each one according to his work.
If your work was not good what do you expect would be your reward? We can lead a life of assumption that all is well because of God’s grace but we ignore what is required of us! God is Love –YES but is also just. Those who obey Him; can they receive the same reward as those who ignore his law in excuse for grace? Chose a life of sin? Expect a reward of eternal death. Rom 2:7-8 (ESV) to those who by patience in well- doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are self- seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury.
1Cor 15:26 (ESV) The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
Sin cannot be allowed to exist forever there is an end to it and unfortunately many will be destroyed with sin because they did not separate themselves from it. Eternal death is meant for the sin and the mastermind of sin – the Devil and his agents. The rest will be victims due to stubbornness, refusing to heed to the call to come out of sin. Jesus brought solution to death we have to see it and accept it for ourselves. “He looks upon the suffering his Son endured in order to save the race from eternal death, and he accepts us in the Beloved.” E.G. White (RH, April 29, 1902) We can die this death called sleep but receive resurrection for eternal life while others will receive yet another death that will mark the end thereof.
“Christ is the Lord our righteousness. Let us take our stand on His side. Let none be ashamed to acknowledge Him as their leader, their counselor, their guide, and their exceeding great reward. Is this sacrificing anything? Is it an honor to be numbered among Satan’s army? Those who make this choice gain nothing. Only death, eternal death, awaits them.” E.G. White (Signs of the Times, December 20, 1905)
“Then do not disappoint Christ by perversity and unbelief. Appreciate God’s gift to man. Show that you understand what your probation means. It means life or death to each one of us. By our daily conduct we are deciding our eternal destiny.” E.G. White (RH, January 26, 1897)
